I do know the XPS system uses Intel and the Alienware system uses AMD. Besides that I am not sure about any other differences.

Well Dell invested in Alienware but they let them operate "independently". I guess they share suppliers for components.

Alienware has a huge good reputation on the High End Gaming PC market. Even with the XPS-700 Dell is not near to what they offer there. Alienware is geared towards truly high end and offering options Dell does not at all - e.g. liquid cooling and stuff.

For an average person the two product range might look similar but for a hard-core pro gamer Dell and Alienware are just like ice & fire.

It has been addressed in various places but it sums up that they think there is room for Alienware as a brand and Dell XPS as a solution too. I agree since Dell's marketing to different people.
I have accounts with Dell and if they worked at alienware I'd just get my gaming systems from home from them but as it is I just get the XPS lines.
Someday they may nerge them you never know but for now there will be the two.

Not to mention alienware is significantly more expensive. You can get much the same parts elsewhere for alot cheaper than alienware offers them. I.E. Newegg.com offers retail parts for significantly less than what alienware sells them to you. The difference... Alienware uses better parts at INFLATED prices, and Dell uses subpar OEM parts at reduced prices (though not always that reduced).

Dell XPS is like a Toyota Avalon, it could be branded as a Lexus because its so luxurious but is badged a Toyota. And an Aleinware system is like a Lexus!:smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. You pretty much summed up what I suspected. I guess I was curious as I decided to buy the Area-51 7500 from Alienware and pretty much upgraded the key components like the CPU, memory, drives, display, etc.... Decided that since I didn't get a discount on the XPS 700 and only had two weeks invested into my order to cancel and go elsewhere as at the time there was too much FUD surrounding that box.

Thanks again!

You guys obviously didn't investigate it...

Actually I cancelled my XPS700 order a couple weeks ago and ordered an Area 51 7500 from Alienware. I got better parts for the same price I was going to pay Dell (I wasn't in on the +30% discount deal). It comes with Conroe, not AMD. Only thing is it doesn't come with a TV Tuner card like the XPS700 does, BIG WOOP, I can buy one for ~$100 and install it myself!

That and I haven't heard of any of these major issues with Alienware that Dell seems to be having, again, again, and again...

I will post pics and let you know how cool it is while everyone is still waiting for their XPS700 :smileyvery-happy:

I think I'll be following your example, I've just lost patience with Dell over the whole XPS 700 fiasco.
