Diagnostic lights

I have a dimension 2350 that won't start up. When I look at the diagnostic lights on the back, the light on the right(D) is amber and the other 3 lights(A-C) are not lit. Can you tell me what this means.

Thanks...

tlutz.

There is no documentation on this LED sequence.  There should be an amber LED in the power button, is this "blinking" or "solid amber".

The hard drive light flashes briefly. No other light comes on.

tlutz.

Try disconnecting all the peripherial devices, leaving just monitor connected, then check to see if the system powers up, if not, try removing the PCI cards.
If the system still will not power on, then try using a different PSU.

Found some codes...Click on link and check them out, but sorry to say they do not match the lights that you see on.  Call Dell up and see if they can assist.  Are you still under warranty ?    Good luck

I have a diminsion 2400 that does not power up until I run heat into the power supply to activate some thermal controll. I have been looking for information on how to lower the setting for start up temp or a way to bypass this, am still looking. You can try running a hair blower into the fan holes for 1/2 to 1 miniute to see if you have this condition, as once my computer starts it runs fine untill I shut down for a period of 5 plus miniutes and then have to use heat gun again.

Mario, what do you mean by this?  I have a Dimension 2400 as well, and it won't start up - just get the blinking amber light, and some times it boots up after a wait.  I'm wondering if I need to blow a hairdryer on my computer as well.  Please give me more details.  Thanx.

I found the mother board would not find the power supply unless I heated up the power supply , then the blinking led on mother board would become brighter when the motherboard would find the power  supply and the start button would work. I guess there is some failing cirquit in the power supply that will work when heated is all I know, and it seems to be a common problem that dell fails to respond to , so I shared what  works on my dell dim 2400's.

If the LED reading is YYYG then it's a BIOS failure,

Make certain that power supply is connected to the motherboard, remove all the PCI cards, video card [if installed] and memory, disconnect the all IDE and FD data cables, check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the case, except the power cable, then power the system on. If you do not get any beep codes or no LEDs in the back, then it would
appear that motherboard has died.

I have a dimension 2400 that does not power up most of the time and when it does power up (not bootup), I get the lights showing (in order, left to right) binking amber, amber, green, green.

Dell shows no solution to the problem and I've already tried swapping out the standard 256mb RAM with a new 256mb card. Does not fix the problem....AGGGRRHHH!!

Can someone tell me how to get this running?

Hello, Could anyone help me please:
I have a Dell Dimension 4600, factory configuration.

When i try to boot, there is a message thta says there is a problem with usb0 and it automatically turns off over and over again

I have disconnected all usb devices but the problem continues.
I have changed the power supply but the same thing, same message and it turns off again
I cleaned the memory modules, pci cards, modem etc.
My warranty expired tree months ago.

Does anybody knows where is the problem???

Its almost impossible to get in contact with Dell Technical Support

Thank you so much for any help.

Headache, that exact same thing happened to my 2350. The motherboard was dead.

Dell dimension 2350, My diagnostic lights are yyyg which is bios. My power light is on (steady green) I hear the ps fan, but nothing on the monitor, the computer just doesn't bootup. I have removed the keyboard, mouse, pci modem, unplugged cd roms, floppy and hard drive. I get no beeps. If I take the ram out then I get the 1 long 1 short beep, indicated missing memory. I have replaced the cpu with a known good one, replaced the power supply, and for good measure loaded my gun (just kidding), Sound like the motherboard or am I missing something. Oh the power light on the motherboard is also lit. I also have cleared the cmos and pulled the battery for a few hours.
Is it time to shoot, yet???
Thanks

Has anyone ever found a solution for the problem mentioned. I have a 2350 than will not boot at all. The diag lights are Off, Off, Off, Yellow. I have not been able to find an answer. I do not want to spend any money unnecessarily.
