Dial Up Connection

Question

Every time my I boot up my computer it starts the dial up connection and connects to the net. It just started doing this on its own. Anybody got any ideas how to stop this from happening??

Hi Pittman,There are a couple of possiblities to check:First go to My Computer | Control Panel | Internet Options | Connections tab. Make certain that Never Dial a Connection has a dot in the circle. If you change something, click Apply, then OK.The other thing to do would be to go to Start | Run, enter msconfig in the field and OK the run. Choose the Startup tab. Look this list over and see if you see anything checked in this list of TSRs that would want an internet connection: an automatic update check application, or something of that nature. If you find one, uncheck it, click Apply, then OK.If you are able to find something to change, do so, then reboot your system and see if you have the results you want.Good luck,Kay

Mary,I can and do use this setting for currently two TCP/IP, dial-up modem accounts (PPP):MSN may operate differently.Kay

Hi Erik,I can't remember how IE 4 looked, I'm sorry, because I usually set this window and forget it. In the response to Mary G is a screen capture of this window, if you would like to see it.I keep telling you--IE 5.01; the way to go :)Talk to you later,Kay

Thanks everyone for your replies, however I still have the same problem. I have looked at my startup and have eliminated about everything that might even remotely cause the problem, but it hasnt helped. The weird part is that this happened the same time I had a failure in Microsoft Money 98. The execute file for this program wont work anymore. It keeps saying that it cant find MSCOFD.DLL , and that file is in there. Even after several uninstalls and installs , I still get the same message. I starting to get a little frustrated.

Hi Pittman,Using the link to Microsoft's .dll database that Erik so kindly supplied, I researched your file. The only copy of this file they list is for Money 2000 Deluxe, but that does not mean that prior versions do not exist.You might want to temporarily copy this file from its present location to a safe place, and remember where it came from. Save it to a floppy disk or in another folder. Next, disable your antivirus background scan and uninstall Money, yet again. Restart the system. Again, disable your antivirus background scan. See if you can find the file on your hard drive--you want to know if that file was uninstalled when you uninstalled Money. If it is there, delete it, since you have backed that file up elsewhere. Now, reinstall Money. Re-check to see if the file is on your hard drive elsewhere from where you might have copied it--if it is, it will be due to the fresh install. Now try to run the program.At any time you wish, you can always copy that backed-up version of the .dll file back into its original location with no problem, should you feel you need to, OK? That's why you always back program files up you may intend to delete--it gives you a backstop position in case you change your mind.I don't know that this will solve your immediate internet connection upon bootup; one last place you might check for a program which might launch it is from the Startup file, located in C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup--possibly something is here. I will check the Microsoft Knowledge Base again and see if I can find anything. If I don't post back by tomorrow morning, it will mean I was not able to find anything further, OK?Good luck,Kay

Hi KayH,
First I want to thankyou for taking the time to help me. However, I found the culprit to all of my problems. Its Called " Pretty Park Worm", a nice little virus that those people who live boring lives and have nothing else like to have fun with. After I got rid of the virus everything is fine.
