Dimension 2100 Memory upgrade

Are you sure the memory modules are non-ECC and non-Registered?

Are they inserted properly?

Did you go into the BIOS setup and validated the memory change?

If you're sure they are the correct modules and are inserted properly and if the BIOS knows about the new modules, have a look at this page. It explains how you can find out if it's the memory that's causing this:

I have checked to make sure it was the correct memory. but the system will only recognize 32k of each memory module i put in. Any other suggestions. I also have put one in at a time with original module. Still only recognizes 32 of the 256k module.

yes. it was two beeps..reseat the memory. I tried that. still get same thing.

In that case you have one last option: reset the CMOS. There should be a chapter in your documentation that explains how to do that (it may require to open the PC case an set a jumper to do that).

If that doesn't work either the memory modules you bought could be faulty.

(PS. The Kingston modules you mentioned are compatible with your Dimension 2100.)

Hi,

You have the wrong memory for your system. Dell systems are very picky with memory upgrades, and genaric or Value RAM just won't work. I suggest that you return the memory and buy some that is sold as being for your specific system model number.
If you use the Crucial RAM picker at my site, it will show you the correct memory and your system's memory specs also.

I read your other post and the problem you are having is because the memory is not listed for your specific system model number. Try here. Quality name brand and low prices too.

Hi,

Yes, Crucial sells quality memory for a low price and it "will" work the first time with Dell systems.
One thing though, the maxfilecache setting is not needed unless you have more that 512MB of memory. Most versions of Windows have a memory bug that you can read about at the bottom of the page here.
