Dimension 2350 Sound Problems
Someone help please. Somehow I lost my system sounds. Uninstalled SoundMAX drivers, and reinstalled them. Still no sound. Ran Diagnostics, everything is working fine. Tried to do a Repair of Windows XP, still no sound. I'm at my whits end. Don't know what to do next. Dell tech said that I may have to change the motherboard, but didn't give me a reason why. Any information would be helpful.

Your sound module is built on to the motherboard. If there is a hardware problem with the sound module you would have to replace the motherboard.
You say you lost "system sounds", does that mean other audio is OK? e.g. CD Audio? or have you lost all sounds?
If you have lost all sounds, have you checked your speakers?, are the speakers connected correctly to the PC? are any interconnect cables connected properly? Is the power transformer plugged into a live AC power outlet? If your speakers have a power light, is the light coming on? Most speakers have a volume control, is it turned up?

Hmm, based on your post, either you have the PC's speakers plugged into the wrong jack or you have defective speakers.
The Speaker Jack, where you plug in your PC speakers, is the Green color jack. If you don't have the PC's speakers plugged in there, that is probably your problem.
You say you plugged in a CD player into the back of the CPU where the speaker plug is supposed to go, Played a CD and heard it where? On the PC's speakers or do you mean you played a CD on the PC and heard it on the CD player's speakers? It's very important to say exactly what you did for someone to assist you in troubleshooting.
Please explain exactly what you did.

Oh, you plugged the PC speakers into the CD player and you played a CD and heard it?
Again, or did you plug the CD player into the GREEN "speaker out" jack on the PC? I'm still confused.

Sorry, but it's still not clear.
1. Did you plug the INPUT of the Portable CD player into the Green Speaker Out jack and then Play a CD in the PC's CD player and you heard it on the portable CD Player?
OR
2. Did you plug the OUTPUT of the Portable CD player into the Green (speaker out) Jack on the PC and then where did you play a CD and where did you hear it? If this is what you did, you are either looking at the wrong Audio Jacks or have the colors mixed as this won't work.
