Dimension 3000 has a "Thermal" problem?
Went to turn on old faithful and she will not function. Sometimes I get black screen with press F1 or F2 to re-set settings, when I press F1 nothing happens or F2 same result, that is where I get the message that my computer has a "thermal" problem. At times when I push the off/on button nothing happens, unplug every thing and try again and then it might turn on. Shut it off wait a while then turn it on again, make it to the desktop it will not allow me to access any of my picture or c files. So I have a Dell laptop and would like to transfer files from desktop to it, can that be done and if so how? Nothing on the desktop seems to function like drag and drop or copy to USB storage. Tried copying to CD and it does not recognize the D or E drive or any other USB slots. I would really love to get my pics especially then pull the drive and give the tower and monitor to be re cycled.

Is the power button LED, solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, or off?
Check the sequence of the four Diagnosic Lights on the back panel of the case.

Has the inside the case been cleaned recently and the fans, heatsink cooling fins and the air intakes located in the front, been checked for any dust buildup?
While the case is open, check that the processor and chipset heatsinks are still firmly attached to the motherboard.
Regards to transfering the files and folders to your laptop, one of the easier methods saving the data, is to remove the hard drive and use a USB 2.0, SATA, adaptor similar to THIS and connect the IDE hard drive to a USB port of your laptop and transfer the files and folders.
Remember to set the IDE hard drive's *Jumpers* to the *Master* setting, before using the adaptor.

I am going to remove the hard drive and order the USB 2.0 SATA adaptor. First can this adaptor be purchased at places like Office Max or Best Buy? Second, is the hard drive on the 3000 located in the front of the tower behind a metal enclosure? How do I set the IDE hard drive to "Master" setting? I appreciate your assistance.

Sorry I don't know if the adaptor can be purchased from either Best Buy/Office Max, as I very rarely buy from them.
Yes, the Dimension 3000 hard drive is located in the bracket attached to the front panel, see HERE
The *Jumper* settings should be on the hard drive's label, THIS should help to show where the *Jumpers* are located on the hard drive.
