Dimension 8100, Sleep Mode
Ever since I installed Office XP, my Dell has had trouble when coming out of sleep mode. Even when nothing is open, the mouse selects several objects on the desktop with a single click. When programs are open, they invariably eXPerience an error and freeze. In most instances, I get a series of errors until finally...a system crash. Can't even restart at that point. I have to cut the power and go through scandisk, etc. By the way, I'm running on WindowsME. I REALLY liked the luxury of putting my computer in sleep mode; but I really like Office XP too. Can anyone help?

You will have a lot less headaches if you disable the sleep/standby mode and just play with your power settings instead. I have my monitor set to throttle down after 5 minutes and the hard drive is set for 20 minutes and that seems to work good. You'll be conserving power and not having to deal with the system trying to come out of standby mode causing the problems that you have experienced.
