Dimension 8300 power supply compatability?

Question

I have upgraded my 8300 to 2g of ram, a radeon x1300 512mb vid card, 160g hard drive, a 1g ehternet card and a 10/100 ehternet card, plus a few other devices and i am in need of upgrading my psu. I have read the forums and done some research, now I need some verification that this particular psu will work with my 8300. The unit is functioning, but stressing and is about 4 yrs old.

Thanx for the response. I read previous posts that directed me to the same sight, but I really wanted around 550w. I am not worried about the sniping, piece of cake there.   Thank you

That model will work however you will have to modify, do a little tin snipping, on the back of your case to make it fit as it has an on/off switch and there is no room for it on your current PSU cutout. Basically, any ATX with 20 or 20+4 pin PSU will work. For ease of installation, you'll just want one without an on/off switch.

There are a lot of links on this forum where to get a PSU without an on/off switch. One that is very popular, although costing a bit more than most is..

I have this unit on my 4400 (same case as your 8300) and it is exceptionally quiet and installed very easily. It should be more power than you'll ever need.

I may have to retract what I said above. I just looked at the dimensions of the unit you want and it is 7.2" long. That is substantially longer than what you have installed. You might have a problem getting it to fit in the 8300 case. I'd do some case measurements before you buy it. I think the unit you have in there now is only 5.5" long. And without looking again, I think there is a release lever in there that is set to that length PSU.

You can retract your retraction, lol. I checked with the ANTEC website and with the Best Buy website and thier specs indicate that it is only 5.9 ' not 7.0. The review specs where wrong. But thanx for the catch, had me a bit scared.
