Dimension 8400

I can't get this machine to boot. I've used all the disks I have and tried everything I know to do. If I boot the machine with a XP boot disk, it shows nothing on the drive. Almost every other disk also shows nothing on the drive. I did have an NTFSDOS disk that showed everything on the disk and I could actually browse folders. Partition Magic shows the partition, but no drive letter. I did something now and the machine will boot to the Dell Hardware Diagnostics. Any help is appreciated. I'd like to save my documents off of it if possible.

The NTFSDOS doesn't let you copy?  There are versions that do.  Sometimes the free/trial version only lets you view and you have to register/pay to get the copy utility.  Google 'NT Reader', it was one such.

Strip it down, remove all add in cards, unplug everything but the mobo power connector, and the boot drive (put a new data cable on it if you have one), get it down to bare knuckles, now remove the cmos battery for 15 minutes, then put it back in, now try to boot from the HDD.
