Dimension C521 vs. E521 and E520
Hi,
I am seeking advice regarding my purchase of a new Dell computer. It's for a home/office environment so I will be using it daily and it will be important to have high performance but definitely not for gaming.
I was originally looking for a Dimension E521 or E520, but now I have a very good offer for a Dell Outlet C521 system. The saving of space is not the issue in my case but the much lower price is! I was just wondering if it is just the limited expandability of the C521 that is the disadvantage compared to the other Dimension models? I only found out about the lack of wi-fi for the C521 so I will probably plug in a USB adapter for that. Are there any other issues that I should be aware of? Like for example an inferior quality motherboard?
As I said, I am looking for high performance; I will do a lot of compiling, number crunching, etc. but not gaming. I am asking because Dell's own description of the C521 is that it is mainly for basic daily tasks like e-mail and web browsing so I just wanted to be sure before purchase!

1. They tend to have more cooling issues, so I would stick with a CPU/graphics card that do not burn a lot of power.
2. They have limited expandability. For example, the C521 has one one low-profile PCI connector. Finding add in cards is more difficult.
If you can live with those constraints, then go for it. Personally, I like the flexibility of a full size case (but I wouldn't mind the smaller size of the compact ;) ).
