Dimension D2400

It used to work great, I installed quiet a bit of linux on it.

However my server does not even show me the bios screen now. It just gives a warm whizz sound as if the fan is working and then nothing happens.

Any thoughts on where to start triaging this one?

The operating system has nothing to do with this problem as it is never getting to the point of loading Linux.

Are you getting any beeps when you power it on?  What is the status of the diagnostic lights?

HERE is the Dell manual and the troubleshooting section which includes the beep codes and diagnostic lights.

I am not getting any beep sounds.

No video either.

I cleaned up the power supplies and at least it is booting up, hard disk seems to be spinning, but no video.

Any thoughts.

Disconnect the data cable to the hard drive.

Turn off and unplug.

Press the power on button with no power attached.

Plug AC power back in and try to power on.

Do you get any video then?

I tried that yesterday the exact steps you mentioned.

>Disconnect the data cable to the hard drive.

>.Turn off and unplug.

>Press the power on button with no power attached.

>Plug AC power back in and try to power on.

Still no video. I did not get any video then either.
