Dimension E520 CMOS reset problems
After changing settings in the BIOS related to the NIC, the computer wanted an unspecified System password which I, as the administrator, did not set. Therefore I tried to reset the BIOS (Which is currently version 2.4.0 on a Dell DM061) via removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes which was unsuccessful and resulted in the same screen as before. Afterwards I tried jumping the pins, switching them as per the instruction manual for the product, which was also unsuccessful and resulted in exactly the same screen.
The screen itself goes as follows:
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 2.4.0
Copyright 1985-1988 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
Copyright 1990-2007 Dell Inc.
All Rights Reserved
Dell System Dell DM061 Series
BIOS version 2.4.0
www.dell.com
Performing automatic IDE configuration...
Tyoe the system password and press
Enter password:
All on a black screen.
Thanks in advance

you have to remove the Password jumper and leave it off. The CMOS jumper will not reset the password. Did you try just pressing enter without entering a password.

there are two jumpers. the COMS and the password reset. the password reset is above the CMOS jumper. To clear the password remove the jumper. Reinstall the jumper only on one pin and the system will not prompt for a password

Yeah, I tried clicking enter with no password and it just kept asking for a password. However after taking the jumper out completely, it seems to be working for now. Thanks.

Glad you got it working. I normally leave the jumper attached to just one pin so they don't get lost.
