Dimension E521 Freeze on boot up
Hi
I boot up my computor my computor freezes in the dell start up screen halfway through and i have to reboot. I can't go press F2 or F12 as the keyboard doesn't work at that part of booting i have tried putting it in front and back usb ports.
I just want my Pc to boot up properly first time
the light on the front that light up are 2,3 and 4 that signals a usb problem but i don't know what it is
help

unfortunately for me it sounds like the easiest workaround involves the placement of your usb cables, especially those of keyboard and monitor (especially when said monitor has a usb hub built in). i say unfortunately, because my monitor has such a hub but is only connected through standard connection or that new white one whose name i can't recall right now!

After some messing around i have found that it boots ok if i don't have the monitor usb hub attached thus only leaving me with the 6 normal supplied ones. It is still a problem i would like to fix as i would rather not have to attach whatever devise i am suing at the time otherwise why have usb hubs?
to me this looks like a major design floor on dells part and i think they should do a recall

Jerry's reply links back to my original post on this issue ... so I'd better re-post what happened next ...
Which BIOS version are you currently using? The "USB freeze on boot" issue was eventually resolved for me in BIOS version 1.1.11 - no matter how many USB devices I attach, or in what order, I can't get it to hang on boot any more.
However, it did take three motherboards to get here - the more serious design problem on an E521 is that it is possible for a BIOS flash to fail no matter what precautions the user takes or how carefully they go about it. Once a BIOS flash has failed, you will need a new motherboard. So, if your E521 is no longer under warranty, you may choose to live with the USB issue ...
