DirectX 8.1

I originally had DirectX 8.0. From the Microsoft download site I downloaded and installed the latest version 8.1 I still get the following message:
DirectX Files Tab: The file iac25_32.ax is a beta version, which is unsupported and could cause problems.
You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version.

Any idea why this file would install with the new version?

Thank you

bj123,

I would not recommend uninstalling Direct X to fix this problem. If everything is working normally, and you are having no problems, then just leave well-enough alone. This message is just waring you that Direct X found a driver that it considers is a beta version.

bj123,

I'm not sure why you are getting an error message stating that you have a beta version, considering that you installed it through Windows Update.

I have the newest version of 8.1 with no problems. If you cannot find another solution, go to this site here.

This is a download utility called DirectX Eradicator. This utility is designed to safely remove the DirectX runtime core component from Windows 9X, Millennium and Windows 2000 operating systems. DXE gives you the power to install and uninstall any version of DirectX as you wish

Please note that this will not help if you have Windows XP, as it is not currently supported.

Good luck!

bj123,

What version of the file is installed on your system? Go to Start|Run, type dxdiag and OK. If your DirectX 8.1 is (4.08.01.0881) you should have version 2.0.5.50, and for 4.08.01.0810 you should have 2.0.5.53. You can see what you have by looking on the DirectX Files tab.

I have both versions installed on my two computers and I'd be happy to email you the one you are missing to replace what you have (assuming that the version you have isn't described as "Final Retail").
