doom 3 image quality

hi,

i know the issues with billinear & trillinear filtering, in doom 3 were supposedly fixed in catalyst 4.9.

However, using cat 4.9 or the latest cat 4.10 i am still not happy with the image quality on my x800 xt. Here are some screens: [ i play in 1024^768, on high ( x8 AF ), with x4 AA ]

I ONLY GOT 17 INCH CRT ( looking to buy a 19inch or 21 inch crt in the uk )

1. Mars base floor is still a bit dodgy.

2. The worst part is wierd jaggies or blurrie bits on some edges. [ is hard to capture in screens ]

3. The guys glasses

Somes peeps say this happens on nvidia graphics cards too? Surely people cant be playin with these things happening and not notice anything?

Dont get me wrong, overall doom 3 looks great. I just dont really like playin it like this.
Are other folk with  x800 xt experiencing this too?

I don't really have an answer to your question (to my eyes those pics look pretty good to me).

But I am wondering which program you use for your screen capture.

Look harder. I just used the screenshot button in doom 3 to take the screens.

It is hard to show what i am talkin about in screens, it is alot more visible when the game is in motion.

wot are your system specs scooby and do u have doom 3?

No, I don't have Doom 3.

Looking again, I do notice the jagged edges on the guy's glasses in the 3rd pic;  but if weren't told anything, I would have thought that the glasses were just supposed to be that way.

I'm sure others will post and give you their opinion of those pics.

there is a doom 3 demo that u can download:

http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=5466

U could give it ago to see if u like doom 3, test your pc out and also see if u see wot i am seeing.

Also, catalyst 4.10 has been released. How come u are still using catalyst 4.9?

I wouldn't like Doom 3 - it's too dark (literally).

I know when I play Far Cry - you start off in a dark tunnel out of which you have to find your way - - I just can't wait till I see light!

About demos - I have found they don't reliably reproduce the game,  and neither how your computer will respond to the game.

Example- could not play either of the 2 Far Cry demos - they would crash to the desktop upon loading.  But the full game plays without any problems.

I have decided to hold back on the new Catalyst 4.10 driver, based on this thread:
