Susan

Did you remove the CD-RW drive from within device manager and reboot as Jim Hardin suggested?
Did Windows display a popup screen saying it had found new hardware and was installing drivers for it?
What happened then assuming the above are answered yes?

Susan--
Know you're tired and worn out, and no doubt totally frustrated by now.
When you go to your device manager, is there a yellow or red symbol next to the cd? Or is it totally missing now?
Have you inserted your ME disk, and used the hardware wizzard to reinstall the drivers for the cd?
Does the cd work at all?
Have you tried to restore the system to a time when the cd worked?
Does the device manager show a conflict on int 13 or 21?
Have you backed up all your data?
Are you about ready to reinstall ME?

Worn out for sure, LOL No yellow or red sys. in device manger.

Shows that I have a CD Rom which is HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8160 B
W I first Got the cumputer it worked fine, then the CD-RW went out in May
this year so they replaced it with this HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8160 B
then 2 weeks later they put yet another one in HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8160 B
So I found out that the ones they are putting in are refubished ones.

When I put CDR/RW in I can read the first one, take that out put in another on and it will not read it or let me acesse my D: drive shows error (608).

Susan--
Error 608---Bad command; drive error.

I assume(bad phraseology) you still have at home service?
Give them a call and refer to this forum and all the work you've done.
If not, then its time to crack the case and check the ide cable.
Disconect it, reboot. When fully up and running, shut down, unplug the power cord, reconnect the IDE cable, . make sure its seated properly. (At work I put a dab of silicon on each at the device to make sure they stay pluged in, after I know it is working.) plug in and turn it on.
It will detect the CD, if the CD is good---have your ME disk handy.
Then try reading several CDs---factory made, not copied or made by friends.
If you still get the same problems, Best buy, here you come.
Let me know.
Fred
