ECC and Non-ECC RDRAM mixed.

Question

I have a Dell Precision 220. It comes with a 256 MB of ECC RDRAM in one slot. Recently, I installed a Non-ECC RDRAM in the second slot. The system seems to work fine with the mixed types of memory.    Does anyone know the effect of Mixing the ECC and Non-ECC type memory?   Thank you for your help!! Answer:   The ECC RDRAM drops to Non ECC.

I was looking to get more RAM for my Precision 220 as well but wasn't sure if non-ECC would work. I've scoured the forum and found that some people have placed non-ECC into the 220 and have had no problems. This is good news as it appears ECC memory costs a bit more.

Go to http://www.4allmemory.com   They have an ioption to scan your PC then tell you what type of RAM you  have, then display a list of suitable parts.   I found the right RAM for my WS340 at a much lower price than what Dell was offering.   Good luck   Frank
