Exact sequence???

well i am not SR45, and yes he knows his stuff, but i could help. 

Although I am confused because I thought the E520 only came with the Intel® GMA X3000 ON BOARD ????

 

Anyway, you can use driver cleaner etc but i really NEVER had to.  Just be sure to uninstall ANY ATI driver software/utilities.  Look in Control Panel>Add/Remove Software for anything ATI related. Once that is done, Power off, Install new card, start computer, Cancel out any New Hardware found stuff, then Run the Install for the Nvidia driver.

when I was buying the E520 I didn't know much of anything about video cards, so I plumped for this one.

 

anyway I used add-remove, plus driver cleaner in safe mode, shutdown> removed the ATI card, put the 8800GT in then the trouble started, I found out that the molex cable was way too short, and the only connector from the PSU is being used by the dvd-rom, couldn't find another spare one, allthough the one to the dvd-rom had two connectors along it's length I moved the shorter one to the dvd-rom and connected the molex cable to that but it was still way too short, so it's back on the shopping trail to see if anybody makes one about a foot long, put the old card back, I had already downloaded the new driver for it, so no sweat.

 

so thats it for now.

sorry but I already have two of those, one's about five inches and the other about six inches long niether being long enough for the job, what I would really like is a molex extension cable six inches long male/female connectors one on each end.

 

I don't know how you found that link, i've tried ever since my last post and never found that one.

would you take a look at the link you posted, and look at the ( MOLEX Y SPLITTER CCPSU1 1901 ), do you think that I might be able to use it as an extension???.

 

and there's one on the bottom right hand side of the page that I think might have worked but it's not in stock.

yes you can use it as an extension, that is actually why i posted that page. You may just have to call and make sure its at least 6 inches long etc, most are 8-12inch.

Thanks for that, I have ordered that one, like it says it's 18cm or just over 7", that will be joined to the Y cable I already have makes about 13" that should be enough.

I've also got a Dimension E520 with a ATI Radeon 1300X Pro Video Card (c/w Catalyst Controller)

 

The Video Cards were available as one of the (many) upgrades when you placed an order

 

I'm guessing you live in the States ?

 

I'm a UK customer and i suspect,Dell,like most companies have different hardware/software packages and configurations for different countries and this card was one of several video cards which could be purchased with the PC 

No I live in the UK, but I've noticed that the conecting cables that are available in the states just aren't in the UK, I'ts a real pain trying to find the right ones over here, because although DELL provide a PCIe slot, they don't provide a cable thats long enough from the PSU.
