Fan Failure Message

I purchased four new fans that are supposed to be for Dell Dimensions 8300's.  All four give the message previous fan failure, but all are still running.  I have two older fans that are the same part number that came out of Dimension 8200's and they work fine.  Is there a problem in the BIOS A05 when you use newer fans?  Does the BIOS need to be upgraded.  I always hate to do this because I have ruined motherboards when I tried this.  Please help.

Just a guess, but try resetting the BIOS.

One way you can do this is the pull the CMOS battery. I'm sure there are others, but this will work.

Could resetting the BIOS cause the new fans to not give the message?  The older fans that I have used since I pulled the new fans do not give the message.

Did you buy the replacement fans from Dell?

Bev.

No, they were not from Dell, but they were the same brand and part number.  They are made by NMB, part number 3612KL-04W-B66.  I bought them from Sidewinder Computers.

Eskotatexas, the Dell fans have special circuitry in them that monitor whether the fan is in place and is working.  The use of non-Dell replacements will give you the error message you are receiving and there is no way to disable it in the BIOS.  You have three options.... replace the fans with Dell replacements or modify the fan plugs to circumvent the error checking circuitry or live with the error message as it won't harm anything.  Click here for a discussion in another forum regarding the modification of the fan plug.
