Faulty Fan
I know this is an odd and slightly stupid question, but I can't determine whether or not I have one of the many faulty Dimenion 8200 fans. My dell is quite a bit louder than my other computers, and if you put your hand next to it after it has been on for a while it feels very warm. If I do not have a faulty fan would it be almost silent?

to confirm if it is processor fan or smps fan... isolate each one & then find.
the sound may be from your hard drive ,cdrom drive or anything else.
so it would be fine if u check if any wire or any thing like paper is stuck in between the blades of smps fan or processor fan.

On the back or your computer, you should be able to
look through the mesh plate and see the large power
supply fan. If you can read DATECH in nice blue letters
you have a lemon. I just received a replacement pc and
they shipped a Datech fan against my wishes. Supposedly,
the NMB fan works, but you can't order that specifically.
Just have tech support, have it replaced until you get a good
one.
