Finding a download??

I do have NAV 2001 and it is updated regularly.

I hope that you have an up to date AntiVirus program running! The Klez worm sends messages exactly like what you describe.

HI Ronnie,

When you activate a link in Outook Express, the downloads will go into the Temporary Internet Files. What makes me concerned about what you describe is that the link started a download without you seeing anything or the download causing a popup or activating one of the media viewers on your system.

If you want to check out the TIF files I would open IE > Tools > Internet Options > Click to delete files in the TIF section > without closing IE click the mail & News selection in the Tools tab and then read mail > click on the web link in the email and when the download is finished close out and go back to the TIF section and click Settings > View Files. This way it will be easy to see what was downloaded since you cleared out all the accumulated junk. The first things will be from your home page then the download from the email will be next.

It might be a good idea at this point to do a 'deep" scan of ALL files with your Norton's scan just to see if something slipped through, although if you had the Download & System scan running it should not have. I have worked on systems here lately that had the Klez worm and a normal scan of just the Program files wouldn't detect it.

Steve: I dont use Outlook, I use my ISP's e-mail program, this download had something that you played on musicmatch, because that is where it went when it finished downloading, so I had never upgraded musicmatch because I dont use it and when big window wanting me to upgrade yes or no, I said no and bam everthing closed and when I opened musicmatch again it wasn't there, so that is when I started to find it. But I am going to do a full AV scan, thanks anyway Steve.

Hi Ronnie,

That's better news, that the download opened MusicMatch. I looks if that is the case then what you were seeing was streaming media and generally it does one of three things. Downloads to the TIF files, downloads to the Windows\Temp folder, doesn't leave a copy that you can find.

It never hurts to do a "deep" scan every once in a while.
