Firewire Vs. USB 2.0

Cards are available which have both firewire and USB 2.0, the Adaptec Duo-Connect, for example. It has 4 USB 2.0 and 3 Firewire ports (one of each is an internal port).

Hi.. thanks for the info! Has anyone had any problems with removing their firewire card from the 8200? I assume i just have to uninstall the 1394 driver in the network connections tab of XP.... Anything Else i might need to do?

Seems like it'd be easier to just buy a camcorder with a IEEE 1394 port (which most decent ones have).

My procedure would be (a) remove the driver as you suggest; then (b) power down and then remove the card, before powering up again. That is probably what you had in mind, but I thought it best to be explicit. If you are adding a new card, power down again, then add the card. Windows will recognize the Firewire ports and re-install the driver; if you are using XP with SP1 installed, it will also install the 2.0 drivers (occasionally, you have to kind of goose it to get that done - by going to Device Manager and telling it to "re-install" the driver, which it failed to install in the first place).

Actually with XP there is no need to uninstall the driver. Just shut down, remove the firewire card and restart. XP will automatically detect the 1394 card is no longer there and simply not load any drivers for it. Reference to the 1394 connection will automatically disappear from Network Connections.
