Floppy Disk Exchange Problem
I have two Dell Dimension systems: 2400 and 3000. The 2400 had a floppy drive that was needed in the 3000. The drive worked just fine in the 2400. I moved the drive from the 2400 and put it in the 3000 with no problems. I then booted the PC and noticed that the Floppy Drive light did not come on during boot.
Thinking something could have got joggled in the move I put it back in the 2400 and again it worked perfectly (this was before uninstalling the Floppy Disk Controller and Drive). So I put it back in the 3000 and still no light at boot, and it did light up on the 2400. SO, I'm thinking maybe the power adapter in the 3000 is bad, but there are no other adapters of its size.
I know Windows should detect the new drive when it loads, but of course it has no power so it detects nothing new.
Any other ideas as to what this could be?

You have to go into the BIOS of the system, then enable the floppy drive controller, for this to work.
By default, the systems without the floppy disk drive installed at the factory, has this controller disabled.

I do not recall seeing any option for "Integrated Devices" either on the 3000 itself, or that document you linked to.
I will check the PC in the morning when I get back to the office.

Select Integrated Devices and press "Enter" and search for the diskette and set it to "Auto"

By BIOS you mean F2 at boot, then drive configuration, and switch Floppy drive to 3.5"...which it is set at?
That was the only option related to Floppy drives I found in the BIOS.

It makes no difference if it's a Celeron or Pentium, regards to the floppy.

Thanks a lot for the help.
I forgot to mention both PCs have Celeron processors. This guide looks to be for Pentium, because it looks like my Pentium PC here, but not the 3000 Celeron I'm dealing with.

Hey, thanks a lot.
There WAS an option for integrated service (my memory was just not with me last night), and I selected to turn "Diskette Drive" on. The light then came on at boot and Windows detected the drive just as I was expecting.
Again, thanks for the information, it is much appreciated.
