Hello,
Hmm?
Not much information to work from. I can guess you are at a DOS prompt, but can you say more about what you want to do?
Some information about this topic can be read on the fdisk page at my web site. :emotion-36:

RE: format hard drive. The man is right more info. Like what drive are you trying to format? You cannot format your systems drive in safe mode! Like the man said, " can't help unless he-we know what is really up? What drive? What for? Why?
Like a shot in the dark answer would be to tell you to go to Accessaries/command prompt/Format /x x =the drive you want to format. But you DONNOT WANT TO DO THIS IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE HARDDRIVE. YOU COULD WIPE OUT YOUR WHOLE SYSTEM, AND AS YOU SAY YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO TELL YOU EXCEPT THINK BEFORE YOU MOVE

It doesn't have to be done from a command prompt James?
Simply boot from your OS disc, format the drive, then install the OS :emotion-55:
Once you've finished reinstalling the OS, drivers, and Windows Updates... I'd suggest you next need to install a complete internet security program, or at least one or other of the many FREE anti virus/anti spyware programs available - most of which are highly respected in their own right (i.e. notwithstanding the fact they're all FREE):
SecureIT Free Edition (ClamAV anti virus AND spyware AND firewall protection!)
avast! Home Edition (anti-rootkit + anti spyware also built-in!!)
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (anti virus AND anti spyware!)
Avira AntiVir Personal
PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition
