Frozen mouse
I've got a PS/2 compatible mouse (Windows XP). Lately, if I move the mouse to a spot, the pointer sometimes zooms to another spot on the page on screen. And within a little while, it freezes up altogether and I can't get the cursor to move anywhere on the screen. I have no option but to shut my computer down by pressing the button on the modem. Yes, before you ask....the mouse is clean as a whistle, plugged in and the computer says it's working. It's 2 1/2 years old. I don't know what could be causing this problem but it's happening every day now. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm 99% sure your mouse is ill. It starts out working most of the time and gets progressively worse ending in a lock up? If you have another mouse handy, trade them out. Or, borrow one from someone nearby if you can. If the problem still exists, your problem is more serious.

Hi Acturus,
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. You were 100% right. It WAS the mouse. After reading through many posts about frozen "mice", I contacted Dell support and went through troubleshooting with the tech and finally, after telling him that so many people reported trouble with this particular model, he agreed is was the mouse. I got the new one the very next day and the problem is completely gone.

GREAT! Happy to help. If DELL would return their tech service from India to the U.S., simple problems like this would be handled very quickly and cheaply.
