"Fun" question

Just out of curiousity, why on earth would you replace an AGP graphics card with a PCI graphics card?  The AGP bus is much faster and you would get much better performance from an AGP card.

Not on my computer. I went from 37mp/s with an ati Radeon 9200 AGP card ($90, on sale)

To 106 mp/s on a G-Force FX 5500 OC PCI card. ($130)

Maybe if I would have paid a lot more for an AGP card, it may have been faster.

It was all that was available from Wal-Mart, we don't have a computer store close by.

I am not a gamer, I just wanted graphics that wasn't jerky or slow. It works great.

You are right.  You should have saved the trouble and got yourself a good AGP video card that will blow away any PCI slot card.  My older system was upgraded from a 64 mb MX card to a Nvidia 6600 GT, and what a difference it made in games......9200 card is a low, low end card today.

I got my card from http://www.newegg.com and was sent to me within a day.  Don't need a computer store nearby and it cost less than retail...

I thank you for your suggestion, and may purchase the new AGP card in the future.

I will add this thread to my favorites, so I can find it, should I need the reference to the 6600 card.


But I have to tell you: The PCI card really worked well at pcpitstop. It went through the video tests in a flash. My other ATI cards took several seconds, maybe even 20.

And like I said, I'm not a gamer, I do play Hoyle Casino games, and those weren't too demanding on my ATI cards. I went from 16 mb to 256mb.(Video Card)

I am thinking about buying another 512 mb stick of RAM. I have one, plus a 128 mb.

Also agreed. You also spent WAYY to much on a PCI card. You can buy a the AGP version which delivers better performance due to the AGP bus for $80. Also, PCI 9200SE's run at $40-45. So you definately got ripped off too.

Is the PCI 9200SE as good as the G-Forcre FX 5500 OC? That's the PCI card I got.

The 9200SE is the lowest 128MB PCI card. The FX5500 will massacre it.

You would get a better deal online at NewEgg.com

For the same money you paid for the PCI card, you can get a 9600XT ($99) which will kill both 9200SE and FX5500.

You upgraded and it worked, and you learned something. Excellent. Remember - when it comes to video cards especially no matter what you put in someone will always come by and drop a dime on you about what a cruddy deal you got, faster or better cards available, etc. etc. Like you said, it works for what you do and you like it and you did it yourself. Now I, on the other hand, run a Whizzerbanger 6 trillion gigabyte GTXRAY DOOMDEATH VOOPOO 3doubleDD 512bit seventeen fan power inhaling vacuum cleaner sounding PCI-X-AGPPPP NTOODEEP card, and it will absolutely fillet any other card that dares to growl at me.

Great upgrade for you and I am glad you are enjoying it. And as for upgrades - I recently added a second hard drive to my new 8400. Other than that, I'm enjoyning a factory built machine for a change.

LOL!! My problem is my system is beige. One of those black cases would stick out pretty badly.
