Function F8

I have a user with a Precision M70 laptop.  When he hits function f8 to display video on an LCD projector, something (windows or laptop) starts acting a little crazy.  PowerPoint presentations will start beeping and go back to the home slide.  If he is in something like Word or Excel, the application will start to zoom in to 400% or the highest it will go.  Only way to correct it is to reboot.  I have upgraded the video driver thinking it was a driver issue with no luck.  I have reinstalled the notebook system tools, no luck.  I have hit the function f8 with no projector plugged in and it still does it.  Has anybody seen this and know a fix.  Thought I would try here before calling support.

    Hi

Did you ever resolve this issue? I've got the same problem and have spent hours on the phone to Dell in the UK, but they cannot sort the problem out.

Dell replaced the motherboard and the video card and it did not fix anything.  Next Dell recommended reloading OS.  I wiped the machine and rebuilt it from scratch and problem was resolved.  Not my favorite solution but it worked.

I've now found out what the causing the problem. I had Microsoft Intellipoint and Intellitype software (v5.2) installed from the CD that came with my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard & Mouse. Uninstalling these somehow solved the problem. I can still use the keyboard and mouse without re-installing the software, but it means I can't use all the functionality like customisng some of the keyborad actions. Also it will not work through my USB hub. So not ideal, but the issue is resolved.

This incompatability is a bit worrying, especially as the same software, keyboard & mouse works fine with my old Dell Inspiron 8600 when connected to a projector.
