FX170 Reflash?

Question

Just recivied 2 Optiplex FX170's with WES7.

Joined them to my domain and they crashed right after the windows splash screen at loading servicies. I figured it must be because of a setting I have in AD.

Created a new OU to put them in and attempted to reflash the clients with the new OS from the dell support site. Downloaded the Dell utility on a flash drive and followed the re-imaging guide. All looks to have been successful. Boot the client and it hangs after "Verifying DMI Pool Data"

Not sure what to do from here....

I also want to order this flash drive because i want to install Windows 7 Pro because I tried all the images from the Dell site but bad luck with all!

I'm not able to startup my terminal anymore :(

Used different tools and image files, but between 41 and 50% it stops and said "press enter and remove cd/usb" after that i boot the terminal and nothing happend :(

With the reflash Utility you have only a ISO file to burn to cd, i want the usb version, so i can copy the img file to the image folder.

Why it's so painfull to image a terminal???

Hi,

i had the same problem this morning, i worked out that i was using the echo version of the windows 7 image and trying to write it using the flash utility, there is an RFU (rom flash utlity) version here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails?driverId=R318537&deviceId=29311&fileId=2731121994

admittedly its not very clear, and the RFU will allow you to write the echo version without warning giving the freeze at Verifiying DMI Pool Data.

the RFU versions are also listed in the other versions dropdown for all subsequent releases, so you can find the echo version and then switch to displaying the RFU version.

Installing Win7Pro on FX170 or Devon TC5C, all drivers worked except for the audio.
The solution is to download the latest Via "High Definition Audio Driver", which includes

The latest WES7 and WYSE USB flash tool downloads worked fine for me, but leaves you with only 400mb free space (needed for OS cache). . No room for apps or drivers at all. The WYSE USB installer also worked perfectly to install WES7 to a 32GB (max) flash drive, but you have to use the checkbox to use the balance for data. Win7pro is free download and has the 30 day trial period which can be renewed 3 times = 90 day trial. Win7pro works fine, but is a bit sluggish with FX170's 2GB RAM.

Hint: Dell has used PowerEdge Dual Processor RAID servers on ebay for next to nothing ;))))

Finnaly i re-imaged it with an older version of wes2009.

I want to use this as a standalone machine, connected to my tv So i can watch youtube etc.

But youtube is slow with playing movies. Is this better with more RAM and the 32GB disk?

FX170's early intel video compression is inferior for streaming; but FX170 Windows Media Player streams media from my main PC pretty good. I'm leaning towards going back to WES7 (faster) if I can find some way to add bluetooth.

I'm using the Vizio Co-Star Android Smart-TV box" with scroll pad remote on my televisions ($59). It also streams media from main PC; and has a remote desktop app so that I can run apps and storage from main PC.

Simon,Something else you might consider for streaming is Linux 'Ubuntu Studio' (loaded to the gills).  I'm just  tired of Windows proprietary terms & limitations.  Ubuntu installs  the same manner.  It uses the usb flash stick to boot an installer called PENDRIVE Universal Installer.  I tried it earlier, and all drivers installed by default (everything).  Regards...
