Generic Host Process for Win32 Services

Question

Hi!

Since I upgraded to Windows XP Pro I've noticed in my ZoneAlarm that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" constantly listens to some ports. What does this program do? Should I just leave it as it is or what happens if I shut it off???

And maybe you could answer the same question about "Application Layer Gateway Service"...

I don't know what it is but I don't give it permission to access the internet and it doens't effect anything for me 'but I think I read here that some people counldn't connect to the internet. You can just try it to see what happens, the worst thing would be to reboot.

I have the same program listed on ZoneAlarm...it has to do with my cable modem connection. I have it set to access the internet but not as a server. If I totally deny it, my connection doesn't work.

Can't answer your question about the "gateway" but if you'd be more specific, someone else will.
