getting into BIOS

Reboot and press F2 before Windows starts to load.

Be careful about making changes in BIOS setup. Make the wrong change and your PC may not boot or not work correctly.

And before you make any changes, it might be a good idea to copy down all the current settings so you can fix any mistakes you make. :emotion-5:

You tube is the worst place to get advice. It is too generic and can mess up your computer. Ask a question here and get specific help for your model.

Well i looked for the answer to my internet connection problems any place that may help but so far all i have gotten is a big fat zero for my efforts the only thing have managed to do so far is to get my legit copy of

WIN7 re validated because for some odd reason i a notification in the lower right corner of my PC that said i may not have a legit copy of WIN7 HERES WHAT I HAVE GOTTEN FOR MY EFFORTS.

(1) error 651,(2) error 658, (3) local area adapter disabled, (4) need to connect to WAN Mini port (PPPOE)

It asks for a ISP user name&password which i got from Comcast cable no go,checked marked to automatically detect internet connection no go,i even took my PC and hooked it up to where my sons PC is right now and did not connect to the internet and to me that verified it is not in the cat5 cables.

IT was suggested that possibly i may have a burnt out LAN CHIP so i bought a add on internet card still

would not work,then somebody suggested that i go into the part of the BIOS and on board LAN chip and thats where i was trying to get into BIOS to disable LAN chip and thats why i was looking at youtube

to see how to get into it i know how to get there by way F2&F12,but thats not what i need and on the youtube videos i can see in the back ground the part of the BIOS i need to be in to make the changes that i perceive need to be made and also maybe enable local area adapter.

Whoa! Slow down. The only way to get into BIOS setup on a Dell PC is by pressing F2. No other way. And like I said, don't willy-nilly change BIOS settings because you could disable the PC.

Click Start button in Win 7 and in Search box, type: Device Manager

Open Device Manager and look for the entry for the network adaptor.  Is it marked with red X or yellow ! ?

Have you scanned thoroughly malware? That's really the first thing you should do.

You would really be surprised how hard it is to sign up to web site when you can not get connected to the internet AND LIKE I SAID before all of these problems started before i lost my internet connection like getting a power outage 3 times in a matter of seconds in device manager there was no red x or yellow !?.

I also know there are 3 levels of BIOS F2,F12 and one that will take into a screen where you enable or disable items on that screen and also i believe you use that same screen to overclock your PC and other things to it.

Disconnecting the Data cable from the hard drive is one way to get its attention.

The other way is to remove some ram.

You can also try piano popping F2 F12 F2 F12 F2 F12 over and over.

F12 doesn't get you into BIOS. It's just an alternative boot menu that gives you options to boot from CD, USB, or to run the hardware diagnostics.

If you had a power interruption, try clearing BIOS:

1. Power off, unplug
2. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
3. Open case and remove motherboard battery
4. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
5. Reinstall battery (right-side-up!)
6. Close case and see if it works now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected

BTW: You can download drivers etc on any PC and use a USB stick to transfer them to this PC.

Actually on Some models hitting F2 then F12 over and over gets you to setup OR Boot menu where one of the options is to go into SETUP.

My precision T3400's work that way.  The F2 F12 method is because unless you got a PS2 keyboard it sometimes ignores usb keyboards until its too late.
