Ghosting a Optiplex 755 - Ghost

What version of dos are you using? You could say try older intel drivers for other cards, you may find one to work. Another option would be to use a boot thumb drive. or put a card in long enough to do the image

For the low costs of burners, it would seem cheap enough to add one internally or externally 

We are using PC DOS on the Ghost machine.  I have tried numerous other Intel drivers (we have quite a few different dells that we have used over the years.)  None of them work.  Thought that the Intel PRO 1000 would work but it did not. Adding a CD or DVD burner is not an option.

Trying a few other dell drivers is not much effort. you can get the drivers from Intel. If a dell has an intel chip i'm looking for, I prefer the Intel site.

I also was having problems with ghosting the 755 using WinPE boot disk.  I was not able to configure the WinPE boot disk so I downloaded BartPE and removed all the nic drives and added the drivers for the 755.  You will need to remember that the boot disk would only work with the 755 if you delete all but the 755 drivers.  Boot to the BartPE disk - it will ask if you want to activate the nic driver and of course you select yes if needing to perform anything with the network.  I was able to ghost an image that we are using for all 755 machines ordered.

i ran into the same issue and ended up using HP USB flash drive util to make a usb flash drive boot then ran Ghost network boot disk but used an old Win98 dos version to make it work then copied the files from floppy to the usb flash drive but make sure you don't overwrite the io.sys msdos.sys config.sys and autoexec.bat

I have managed to get the drivers from intels website. I have managed to make one for about 7 nics that we use and boot from usb and choose the nic from a menu

I recently found the solution to ghosting on the 755s.  According to this article on Symantec's website, AHCI mode CANNOT be used.  The 755s have this enabled by default in the BIOS.  You have to change the SATA settings in the BIOS from AHCI to Legacy.  After I did this, I could ghost and restore to/from DVD images.  I love it when the fix is a simple one.

 

Change the BIOS setting for the SATA hard drive.

• In the BIOS on the client computer, there may be a section called 'SATA' or 'Hard Disk.' Depending on the particular computer, the setting should be changed to one of the following:
  
  Legacy SATA Mode
  Combination Mode
  Compatibilty Mode
  IDE Emulation
  

Are you using AHCI mode?

• You must turn off AHCI in the BIOS.
