GX620 - Graphics Upgrade issues

Hi,

I just received my Optiplex GX620 and installed a Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 PCI express x16 graphics card.  However, when I boot the PC, I get the message "Alert! Error initializing PCI Express Slot 1" and the machine does not recognize the card.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

Are you using a tower or desktop gx620? The tower has a bigger power supply.

Someone else mentioned that as well. Unsure of why that would be the case though; I was of the impression that graphics cards would have a connection for direct power from the power supply if they needed it. Thoughts?

Are you using the latest bios?

I don't see any real reason other than maybe the board is requiring more power than the motherboard can hand out.

I am using the tower. Has ~350watt power supply I believe.

I tried updating the BIOS and Dell had to come replace the motherboard because the machine became unresponsive. Worried to do it again for fear of the same result.

You need a current bios. I believe A08 was the version that had the fix for the NVS PCIE adapter.
