Hard drive capacity question

I have a 4100 with an 18 GB capacity drive. I have always kept up with trying to keep it reasonably clean of uneeded junk. But it seems to be filling up whether I put anything new in it or not. From last night to tonight, it added 3GB and i didn't do anything and I have been through and got rid of over 200 MB and it still shows the same. I'm not the genius at this stuff like all of you here are, but can you give me an idea of what is happening.

Have you emptied the recycle bin? If not, then the junk hasn't gone anywhere yet.

you can also try checking your program files. most things stay in there and if you or somone in your family has downloaded a game and unistalled it, the program file will still be in there taking up alot of space also.

To answer both replies, yes I always dump the recycle bin, in fact I took out over 200MB of stuff and it didn't change at all. And no it's just me alone on this one and it just changed over night, from shutting it off to starting it back up again. I don't have this problem with my XPS T, it only has an 8GB drive and isn't even up to having used 3 yet, so what is going on with this one, they get the same type of usage.
