Headset Microphone Playback Question
Hiya,
I've had my XP420 for a few months now and am extremely satisfied. I have a small question though, on my old computer which was running XP I had the option under sound options to hear myself while I spoke in my headset (which head a mic). I could either mute it so I couldn't hear myself or enable it. How can I find this option on Vista? I want to be able to hear myself when I speak using my headset.
Thank you
I think the driver is Sigma Tel, if you guys need any more info ask away. Sorry if this is a silly question.

Everything looks fine, nothing is muted.
Should "Playback Devices" have Microphone like "Recording Devices?"
Also, when I run a test under "Playback Devices" in Speakers/Headset I can hear the windows sound in each side of the ear pieces. So it is reading it, I just want to be able to find that option like in your window that lets me adjust the microphone volume or if I can mute/unmute it. I cannot find that anywhere.
There are more sockets in the back of my PC, should I try plugging my Mic in those? This is not a USB mic by the way, if that helps at all.

1. On the bottom right of the start bar right click on the white speaker with green waves.
2. Select Playback devices.
3. Then double click the playback device with the green check mark.
4. Then select the levels tab. And unmute the mic. Maybe raise the volume too to 25 or so.
Alternatively click start> control panel> hardware and sound> manage audio devices. then start from step 3.

Under "Recording Devices" Right next to "Microphone" I see the bars light up when I talk into it.
But under "Playback Devices" I only see "Speakers/Headset" and when I speak into my mic the green bars do not show up. When I go to the levels tab I don't get the options you do. The only option I get is "Speaker Volume."
I don't have speakers plugged in, all I have plugged in is my mic headset.

sounds like you click the recording tab not the playback tab.
Also do thing with your headphones plug in.

SigmaTel high definition audio codec. I think it's just integrated, I don't remember ever purchasing a sound card or choosing that option when I was buying this PC. It asked if I wanted the sound card with it and I said no, I clicked something that said integrated audio.
Just to be more exact, where can I check the type of audio card I have?
