Help me get an Ethernet Connection
I have a 4600 Dell desktop
Windows Xp my OS
I put in my ISP disc and i cannot get a connection with ethernet hooked up
However USB works but i dont want to use USB i want to use Ethernet so i can use my Router
When i try to set up an ethernet connection it says i need an Ethernet driver
I tryied installing some drivers listed on the ISP disc but none worked
Also as a reminder new hard drive my installed in my comp because the other one failed so i had to reinstall everything but i dont get why ethernet not working
Can someone help me so i dont have to spend $ to have a comp tec guy come to do 5 minutes of work

applications
Audio
Bios
CD/DVD
Chipset
Communication
Diagnostics
IDE and EIDE controllers
Network
Video
Another thing is which Audio do i install because right now i have no sound

Anarchy: If you only just reinstalled XP on a new drive you're probably missing most of the drivers you need, including the chipset. This link gives details on getting them all installed in the correct order:

It was the last one, intel driver. Here is the link

im sorry im still confused which driver is the right one under network
there is
dell firmware
dell html
dell utility ....
dell utility....
dell utility ....
intel diagnostics utility
intel driver
I only see USB im not sure which one is Ethernet
also your link isn't responding right

1) What does your device manager list under Network Adapters? To access device manager, right click My Computer, left click Properties, click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button.
2) Did you install the chipset drivers as per my previous link?

my network adapter says
Motorola SURFboard SB5100 USB Cable Modem
I use this Cable Modem with my linksys modem (ethernet) before on my old hard-drive that needed to be replaced
how to i change it to Ethernet?
And when i clicked download chipset it says there was already a downloaded file of it installed

No, Anarchy, not your modem, the network adapter IN YOUR PC. I think you're getting confused by the terminology. A network adapter is simply another name for your ethernet adapter. Try this. Right click My Computer, click Manage, then click Device Manager on the left hand side. You get a screen that looks like this.
Then double-click the network adapters, and see what's listed there.

yes i did everything you said and clicked network adapters and it says

thats what comes up when i click the positive plus sign to the left of network adapters
