Help please, XPS 4500, processor fan not detected

Question

I have a Dimension XPS 4500, windows XP

I just noticed this when I rebooted. A line goes by that says “processor fan not detected.”

It could have said this for years because I’m not sure how long it’s been since I’ve watched to boot sequence.

I found on Dell’s website the documentation for my computer and I don’t see a processor fan listed, I do see a heat sink, what ever that is. I can feel the big fan blowing out the back of the computer.

Is there a processor fan in my computer, if so where, doesn’t appear to be on top of the processor

Make sure it's still connected to the mainboard - if it is, you can order a replacement from   http://www.impactcomputers.com/9m060.html

The processor fan is the one behind the CPU affixed to the back of the case.   The other fan is inside the power supply (it sounds like it's not that one which  has failed).

Thanks, so there is a processor fan? I can feel the big fan running, there are two?

Thanks for your detailed information. I did find it, and made sure it was plugged in. It's not turning so I assume it's bad.

I'm not real computer smart and broke all four of those rubber things that hold the fan in when I removed it.

I will use the link you provided to order a new fan. Hope it comes with screws or something
