There is separate support section just for XPS systems.
Along with the system specs, indicate exactly what you are attempting to do, with what program when you encounter the problem and repost on the XPS Desktop Audio section.
Please, help me get my sound recorder operate properly. My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 series. I've upgraded to 3 GB of memory. The computer runs great. Just only the sound recorder, running in XP gives me the message when I try to record a message, then when I press the playback bottom, I get the message, saying , not enough memory. Can you give me advise to what can I do.
I gave up on trying to fix my initial problem and downloaded the following free recorder.............http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows
I assume y'all are referring to the Windows Sound Recorder. First, it only records from the mic and maximum of 60 seconds. It's not really good for anything other than to test.
If you want to record from a microphone or from a stereo line in it's best to use a regular "recording" program. The free and popular Audacity recording program will do that. Give it a try. Click Me

I had the same issue and found out the problem is a Windows problem.
There are two solutions:
1) Remove enough memory sticks from your computer so you do not have over 2GB RAM (see KB 284893).
2) Download another sound recorder. This is what I did, I downloaded Audacity (see above).
