Help urgently needed!
Hello,
I recently purchased a Dell Precision 490 workstation from a used PC shop which is a Dell premier partner. The specs are: 1x Intel Xeon 5120, 4GB RAM, 80GB HDD, ATI FireGL V7200. When I got the PC, it had 7 Ultimate 64 installed on it, which the video card doesn't fully support. So, I decided to roll back to XP Pro with an install disk from Dell. When I tried to do so, I was able to boot off the disk, and it "finished copying installation files" and restarted. When it restarted, it wouldn't boot the installer, didnt respond to keyboard commands yet made a single BIOS beep, and is now stuck at a screen saying.
Serial ATA ACHI BIOS, Version iSrc 1.02.25 07222007
Copyright whatever
Copyright whahtever
Controller Bus#00, Decice #1F, Function#02: 05 Ports, 01 devices
How can I get XP to install now? And fix this problem? The BIOS boot selection won't work, and I tried pulling the CMOS batt with no avail. When I try calling Dell for support, they aren't very helpful because the PC isn't registered to my name, which I would like it to be, since I'm the new owner!
Thanks,
Matt

The registered owner will have to complete an ownership transfer form in order to register this system in your name.
Since XP doesn't have SATA drivers built in, did you set BIOS to ATA (eg, RAID Autodetect/ATA) before loading XP?
If you installed SATA drivers during the actual install of XP (either from a floppy diskette or by using a slipstreamed copy of XP with SATA drivers added), you have to reboot and go back into BIOS setup to change BIOS to AHCI or RAID, whatever the option is. Otherwise XP won't do that first reboot if BIOS is set incorrectly.

1. The PC allows me to boot without a HDD, but when I put it in, it gets stuck on the BIOS screen
2. The original owner sold the PC to the shop, and the shop sold it to me...who would have to complete the title transfer?
3. No, I didn't

E: Fixed it, had to disable Floppy Drive and set RAID to ATA.

Is there any reason you need to stay with the FireGL?

I CAD a lot, but I also want to game. So, I'm stuck with the dilemma on whether to upgrade or stay with the FireGL. I won't be able to use the desktop for a day or two, because my VGA to DVI converter broke, will probably get one on Black Friday. Maybe they have gfx cards on sale...
