I've just finished my third debug, fdisk, format following installation of a new processor for my XPS T450. On the assumption that my mega-problems may be over ... I'm trying to figure out how to use FSC to track what each thing I install does with system files.

One might assume that having just installed Win98 (not even the 2nd edition upgrade yet), it ought to be a clean slate. I thought if I ran SFC now it would draw a blank. Not so. SFC tells me that I have 37 files tabbed as changed or deleted! (I have for the present 'ignored' all of them.)

Changed from what? Does the SFC program (if that's the term for it) have a built in memory of what to expect that's independent of the OS it's part of? What should I do with this lot?

Question 2: Have I got this straight? SFC will help me optimize performance if I run it before and after each installation and upgrade. If I go with the newer version of each identified file while backing up the current version; I can make sure that I'm able to go back to the older version if the new installation requires it, but will be able to run with the newest version that keeps everything going.
