Hk 695 problems
I have the HK 695 speakers and although they sound great, after two weeks the bass controle starts to malfunction. The subwoofer gets way too bassy and flat sounding, and generally it just sounds bad. The bass controle just starts to not have anycontrole of the volume of the subwoofer. I sent my first set back after they started malfunctioning and got another set sent to me but after 3 weeks this pair is doing the same thing. Dell tech support says its a driver problem, but im pretty sure its not since it does it at randome times for no reason, and when i apply pressure to the bass controle it crakles and acts like it has a loos connection. I got frustrated once and hit the subwoofer and it started to function correctly, this indicates to me its the speakers and not a software oriented problem. Since this happend to two seperate sets im wondering if this is a common problem.

I have had my computer for 1 1/2 years now with same problem as you described with the Harman/Kardon Subwoofer. The problem is very intermittent, and just when you think that it will never happen again, BOOM there it is. It happens on all Media Players (MP3, *.WAV) and with all my computer games. It just sounds like all the speakers are under water. The only thing that I have found to correct this is turn off the subwoofer for about 2 minutes.
Also I notcied that the base knob on the sub is very touchy. If I touch it, it can cause the sub to become very base.

I also have this HK695 system and all of a sudden while playing some music the sound is gone. Tried all the troubleshooting suggestions and nothing worked. Even tested the unit using the diagnostic plug, but that didn't even work.
I read somewhere in this thread that if I leave it for a few days the sound will come back. Is this true? Sounds strange to me...

The problem is an internal loose connection with the base control knob. It is extremely strange how many people have got this problem. In answer to your question, no. Even if you leave them for a day or two, the problem will still arise in the future. I have a feeling that Harman Kardon have a very dumb production line, with dumb workers. There is nothing we can do. I'm not going to attempt to get them replaced as some poor fellow on here left a message saying he was on his 4th set of speakers! I'm going to buy a new quality set of speakers. I am very disappointed as when these speakers function properly, they sound great. But, this bass problem is really starting to bug me now and I'm not going to put up with it any longer so as a result, I'm going to get the SB Audigy card with one of creatives Inspire 5.1 systems. Its a shame really, but as I said, it is really bugging me now. What I will try to do, with the support of others on this forum is to launch one big complaint and get an explanation of why so many people are having this ridiculous problem. There must be a reason why so many of these sets are faulty. So, in the mean time, I suggest that we all get on the harman kardon website, lauch all our complaints to the technicians, and see what happens, surely they must know how many people are having this problem then. This, I expect is not Dell's fault, as Harman Kardon actually ship these speakers in their retail boxes to Dell to include with their systems, is there actually anyone without a problem with these speakers? I'll make sure that I get to the bottom of this, and when I do, I'll make sure everyone on here knows.
Kind Regards
Adam

I haven't had any problems (yet) with my 4 month old HK695's. So far, so good.

Adam2002,
Thanks for the info. I going on HK site and lauch an e-mail to them. The company I work for had a spare set of HK-695's. (I had an earlier post on the problems I'm having.... same as everyone else). I brought those home one night and hooked them up and these sounded great. Just like mine did when they were new. So, that rules out and driver, or sound card issue. I e-mailed Dell Customer Care and got one of those automated responses. That didn't help me out so I replied back to them. A day later I got an e-mail back saying that my reply was not delivered because it couldn't find the address! This was the address Dell told me to reply to! I guess I'm going to get on the phone this week. If you find anything out let us know on the board. I really think HK has a quality problem. Maybe if enough people with problems call HK they will fix the problem for good? I really like the sound of mine when they worked.

Everyone,
I sent an e-mail to HK about all the problems everyone here is having with the HK-695 speakers. Here is part of what I stated in my e-mail:
" I feel HK should be responsible for their products. With the problem that all these people are having with the HK-695's, there seems to be a component/quality issue. I wish HK would step up to the plate and make this problem right for everyone. "
Here is HK's response:

Guys, i also have the hk695's and touch wood, no problems so far! Just thought id tell you why i think there is so many problems with these speakers. Even though they are great sounding and all, when you first opened the packet of the speakers didnt you see where they came from on the sticker on the box?
