Hotsync problems with Palm VX with Serial Port, COM1.

I have a Palm Vx that I've been hotsyncing with my PC through the COM1 port for about a year now. Never had any problems, then a week ago, I started having major problems. My PC and Palm will connect but can't find the user name. It hangs up there and then the palm says, unable to find desktop, check set up and try again. I've tried everything Franklin Covey told me to do, with no results. They said that I needed to get my COM1 port replaced that it shares resources with my mouse or modem and does not have enough to complete a full hotsync. Has anyone had this problem before and how did you fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to do a back up of your address book, maybe even print it out. Then Uninstall Palm and reinstall it. Sounds like some files may have gotten corrupt. Good luck.

Why would the address book cause a corruption of the Palm hotsync manager and not identify the user causing the palm not to sync with Franklin Covey for Outlook? I will try it though. Nothing FC told me worked. They kept insisting that it was a problem with my COM1 port.

Thanks.

Did you ever find a solution.
I have the same problem
FC told me it was with the PalmConnect.
Palm tells me it's the Serial Port.

I was able to solve this because Franklin Covey told me to buy the USB port kit. I did this and it worked. They told me that Dells have a problem with their COM ports. They said something about the COM port not being able to complete the synchronization.

I'd try buying the USB kit ($40) to see if it works. I'd also call DELL if your computer is under warranty to get them to look at your COM port. I've haven't done this yet, but I will.

I have the same problems with my USB PalmConnect Kit not being able to HotSync after 3 or 4 reboots. Very Frustating.

You bought a USB Kit and it is still not working? I just got the USB kit about 1 week ago. This makes me wonder is there is a problem between the computer and the Palm hotsync cradle. What exactly is the hotsync problem that you are getting? Is it like what I was getting, where it looks like it is connecting, (the window on the palm says "connecting to desktop" and the window on the computer says "conneccting to the handheld") and then hangs up on trying to find or cannot find the user?

Yes, I know have that problem also after trying the Palm Software, tehn reloading the FC software.
I was able to HotSync after loading the USB, then after 2 - 4 reboots, then it would not find the Com prot. I then had to Remove the USB PalmConnect and reload the drivers.

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same problems and am caught in the Dell/Palm/Chapura talk to the other guy loop.
