I have a studio XPS 8100 desktop. I see two chipset updates listed for my computer, identified by its service tag. How do I identify which update I need?
Thanks for the information. I checked CPU-Z, and it gave me the chipset ID, but apparently, it's up to date. I'm guessing that Dell lists the available chipsets for my XPS 8100, but that is different from showing that it needs to be updated.
Unless you purchase an early version of any particular computer, there is usually no reason to update drivers unless a problem occurs that requires an update. A major Exception is the video drivers if you are a serious gamer. Always check the description of the changes to see if an update is necessary. This is especially true for a BIOS update, there is a real danger of bricking the computer if something goes wrong.
After a rather short period, Dell stops issuing driver updates. In this case, if you need a replacement driver, you may need to go to the manufacturer of the hardware in question. Chipset drivers can be obtained from Intel or AMD, and video drivers should always be obtained from the video manufacturer.

HW monitor or CPU-Z will identify the chipset running. HW monitor may only run on newer hardware so YMMV

Hi,
If there are any updates they will be listed on Dell support page.
And if there is any important, they get updated via windows update.
Have a good one.

XPS 8500 is Intel H77and on Studio XPS 8100 it is Intel H57.
Version 9.1.1.1020 is the current chipset driver for many models.
