Image distortions

I wonder if someone in here can help me trouble shoot an annoying problem that I have just noticed with my Monitor. My monitor isn't a Dell Monitor, rather it is a one of Sony's models. It was given to me by a relative just after I purchased my PC, it is old, atleast 6 to 7 years old. In the last two days, I have begun to notice horizonal blueish streaks appearing on my screen when I am on the Internet. These lines appear only when I am on the Internet and at any and all websites that I visit. I am not sure it this problem is being caused by the monitor itself, or by the PC's video card. Has anyone ever experianced this, is it a sign that the monitor is nearing the end of it's lifespan, or could the PC's video card be causing these lines?

Borrow a monitor and put it on the computer, If you still have the lines than it is your vid card.

You might be able to correct that problem with updating the drivers. But that prop won't work.

If you don't get the lines than keep the monitor you borrowed.

just kiddin.
