Information on reformating computer
Can some one help me!!! I need to reformat my computer and I don't have any of the cds that came with the system when i purchused it, They told me to do a Dell PC Resotre which you use as soon as the computer turns on and you hit ctrl=f11 Does any one know about this? Do i need the back up cds for this? Also I installed office 2003 after purchasing the system, when i do the restore will it erase this? What will the restore erase and what will it keep so that i know what I need to get or save to do this on my computer. Please help thank you

The PC Restore (instructions here) is available on systems made after July 15, 2004. If your system fits that criterion you can use it and it will reset your system to its "as shipped" state with nothing that you have added since you received it remaining, so you must back up everything perishable to removable media (CD/DVD) prior to performing it. If you received CDs when you purchased the system I suspect you got it prior to the PC Restore date. In that case, your only option is to purchase a new copy of XP.

Yes, you can use PC Restore. It requires no additional disks. If you are still under warranty you should request an XP reinstallation CD. See this.

You need nothing external for PC Restore. The XP Reinstallation CD will be needed if your hard drive should ever fail and need to be replaced.
