Installing new video card. Please Help!

I recently purchased a Jaton FX5700LE (Video 248 PCI, 128MB) video card with hopes of upgrading my video capability. Have tried all 3 PCI slots and have had same results. Inserted the new card, plug in to monitor and boot system. All I get is multi-colored vertical lines. Once in a while I'm able to get to a windows login, but I lose the graphics within a few minutes (goes back to vertical lines). I followed the installation instructions from the Dell website precisely. I've uninstalled the Intel drivers and have disabled the on-board Intel graphics card.

System specs:
Dimension 3000
P4 3Ghz
512 Mb RAM
80 Gb HDD
Windows XP SP2

I desperately want to get this new video card working. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, how would I know if the card was defective?

Thx.

Update:

I reset my BIOS for default video to "ONBOARD" and then reinstalled the graphics card/drivers. I then uninstalled the Intel drivers and rebooted and set the BIOS default video to "AUTO". After this I rebooted again; connected my monitor to the new graphics card. To my surprise, I got Windows to load. I logged in and the Intel graphics card was re-enabled. I went to disable it and before I even could make the change my video "went out". That is to say that the screen went blank. I tried rebooting again, but all I got was more multi-colored vertical lines. To make things worse, I can't seem to re-enable my onboard video to try to troubleshoot this.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's a conflict between the onboard video controller and the FX5700LE, but I don't know how to resolve this. No matter what I do the onboard gets re-enabled. If anyone has any new suggestions, I'd be most gratefule.

Thx.

There's 2 answer to your problem...

1.  Check your Motherboard maybe there's a problem with it and need to change a new one. Make sure that the VGA card was inserted tightly into a motherboard slot.

2.  Install the drive of your monitor even if your computer is a plug and play just to make sure that your monitor is compatible with your VGA card.

If this answer didn't solve your problem you need to change your monitor into a new one. I suspected that your monitor is the main cause for not giving you a window screens instead a strip color or a standby mode. Also check the bootable drive if it is enable because maybe your drive didn't initialize the start-up. As you said it seems that all hardware that you have is new and you did change your VGA card into a new one so what else? Why your screen didn't appeared? Check your monitor and if it is needed change it into a new one.

There's another way also to check if your monitor is still in a good condition. Format your c:/ then install a new windows including all drivers of your hardware. That's another way to check if it all working. The problem of formating the computer is way to long spending a time. But if you dont know how to do it is better to contact 1 computer technician to fix it for you.
