Installing scanner drivers

Having a window issue with installing a scanner driver.  Seems to be a Window/computer issue other that software.  When i go to Run and enter "devmgmt" and view "image devices" i have an exclamation mark for every device i have installed.  Does any one know if there is a solution for this?

How many devices have the ! next to them?

It sounds like you have not installed your os properly.

You will help us to help you by providing more info like your system model, os and hardware. Also what you have done recently like did you reinstall etc.

Thanks for the clarification in refining my question.

I have the os of window xp-home/sm. business.  And I am trying to have a Brother Multi-function copy, print, scanner work like is used to.  I have not had issues with my set up in the past.  I have a Brother "multi-fuction center" MFC-240C that i have been using in the past with no problems, but have recently ran into problems.  I contacted Brother for assistance and through them, have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the divice.  Everything seems to work (printer and fax) except the Scanner.  After working with their Tech-support, they said that it was a "Windows issue".  When I go through the "Run" process and enter "devmgmt",  "exclamation point"s came up with my Brother scanner and also when we tried to add a Epson scanner.  I seem to haveing an problem with the internal work and I am hoping that it is a simple fix since my warranty is over.  Does anyone know if I am missing a step?  Or if there is a way that I can trouble shoot this issue?

A belated "welcome" to the forums :emotion-21:

Do you have SP3 installed, and have you run Windows Update, to make sure you have all the latest updates as well?

Assuming you have... I'd suggest reinstalling your chipset drivers, to make sure those are not the reason for the errors you're getting?

PS:  You still never mentioned what model of computer you're using :emotion-55:

I have a similar problem. The scanner of my all-in-one machine does not work. Printing and copying works fine but the scanner device has an error in Device Manager and nothing that HP support said to do fixed it. I also have a problem with web cams. The software installs ok and the cam is listed in Device Manager correctly but has an exclaimation mark. My digital camera works fine though, so it seems to be just 'installed' cameras / scanners. Could the scanner / camara files of XP be corrupt?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Win XP SP3 and latest updates.
