Internet adapter connection
Hope someone can help me. I'm having a problem not being able to connect to the Internet -- checked all my cables and wires, contacted Verizon to run some tests on the router before contacting you guys. After some tests the tech told me that it was a computer issue. I have Windows 7 Home, Inspiron 570.
I found a suggestion here on the forum from a past post. I'm not sure if it will help me but I will give it a try. If it doesn't work, can someone give me directions on what I should do?

Lately I've been lacking network connectivity upon startup after a shutdown of my Dimension E520. After much experimentation I discovered that disabling and enabling the network adapter in Device Manager fixes things. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, but the problem did not appear until several days later. It happened once, then things were fine for a couple more days, then it started happening every time I power off the machine. Seems like flakiness in the network adapter, but the timing makes me wonder. Thoughts?
If you open an Administrative Command Prompt and Run IPCFG /ALL and your address is
192.168.XXX.XXX or 10.XXX.XXX.XXX and not 169.254.XXX.XXX
Then you may be having cable issues.
If its 169.254.XXX.XXX something the computer is not getting a DHCP address from the router aka its not communicating hense the reason to try setting to 10 meg half duplex.

I am pleased to report that, after all the aggravation I put you guys through, I am NOW reconnected to the Internet. After scratching my head and Googling all kinds of word combos to try and figure out where my network security key was, I had been reading a FAQ totally unrelated to my problem and there...BAM was the answer!! Turn over the router and the WEP key is there. I figured this had to be it so I crossed my fingers and eyes, plugged in the numbers and...voila!!!! I have to say that this has been a most enlightening and educational problem. I learned a lot more about my computer than I've ever known and that's a good thing!!!! Thanks guys!!!!!!

Hi Lynnie410,
Do you have FIOS or DSL? When you lose internet access, are you able to access the router configuration page? On the FIOS router, the IP address for the router is 192.168.1.1 (just type that in your brower address bar).

And one other thing, I got a message saying that I do not have a valid IP configuration.

Ok, let's try again. Open your browser and type in the address bar: 192.168.1.1 and hit the enter button. Tell me if you see the log in screen for the router configuration page.
If so, open a command prompt by hitting the windows key, typing CMD and hitting enter. Then type where the cursor appears: IPCONFIG /ALL and hit enter.
Tell me what you see for default gateway and DHCP server.

I also ran the diagnostics and it's asking me to connect to an available wireless network.

I'm getting this message: "Unable to open the search page." When I close the message box another browser window comes up and the address is: "ieframe.dll" and it continuously scrolls.

Hi. Okay, I typed in IPCONFIG/All and got a bunch of information. Not sure how an IP address and default gateway reads. Can you give me an example so that I will know what I am looking for?

do this. run the ipconfig again. with the info showing right click in the window and select the select all option. come back her and paste the info into your post.
