You can try to go into the BIOS setup and change the settings for the parallel port to allow for 2-way communication. I'm on my 8100 right now, so I can't get into the BIOS setup to tell you exactly how to do this (BIOS setup is available on the first boot screen by pressing F2 [I think]. Post back if this suggestion doesn't work.

I'm having the same exact problem. I think I need to change my LPT1 port from ECP to EPP (to enable bi-directional communication) but I have no idea how to do this. I am not familiar with BIOS or how to change it.

If you have an 8100, press F2 on the first screen when the computer starts. This takes you into the BIOS setup. Don't change anything in the setup unless you fully understand what you are doing. To change the parallel port configuration scroll down to "Integrated Devices" and press "Enter". A box will come up that lists the devices present. Scroll down to "Parallel Port" and press "Enter" to change the options. Select "mode", and use the arrow keys to change it to ECP or whatever you want. Use the Esc key to close the boxes and then hit the Esc key again to exit. Choose to save changes and exit, and your system will reboot with the new settings.
