You can go into the control panel, select users and set up a password. Unless your roomate knows how to get around it you should be alright. Only thing is you'll need to enter the password everytime you get on.

Unless you run WinNT or Win2K, the password requirement at Windows startup is not very effective security. FAR BETTER would be to activate the Password function in your system BIOS. Then, the machine won't even boot up w/o the correct password being supplied. If you really want to keep people from being able to use the PC, period, that's a good way to do it.

Only prob with THAT is, if you forget your password after activating it in the BIOS, it will be VERY difficult to revert.

In addition to BIOS and Windows passwords, many applications (eg. Word, Excel) allow their files to be saved with password protection.

Im curious as to how you would reset a BIOS password. Do you have to start taking batteries out or wiping microchips?

Jumpering the CMOS is one way........
