Keyboard Failure
I am hoping someone can help me. I have an 8200 with the UBS keyboard and everytime I boot my computer it gives me a keyboard failure error. I am supposed to press F1, (but with with a failed keyboard no less!) this error diappears after a minute or so, and the boot process resumes and I have no problems inside windows. I guess the big thing is that it is a major annoyance. I do have the latest drivers, so I know it is not that. The BIOS is set properly, so I am confused. Thanks

This is a known problem with a number of Dimension models when a USB keyboard is used. If you take a look at the Keyboard/Mouse conference you'll find a ton of posts about the issue. The cause is a flaw in the BIOS code and hopefully Dell will correct it in the next BIOS update. For now, the only workaround is to plug the keyboard into any USB port except port 1, and by port 1 I mean the left port on the back of your computer tower. The error won't occur as long as the USB keyboard isn't plugged into this port, but the catch is that you can't navigate in the BIOS with the keyboard plugged into port 2 or one of the front USB ports on the 8200 (or 4300).
